Disney Pulls Out Of New Narnia Film Installment
Published: December 29, 2008
The Voyage of the Dawn Treader could be postponed now that the Disney studio has decided not to help produce or finance the third film in The Chronicles of Narnia series.
With expected costs around $200 million, a Disney spokeswoman cited budgetary considerations. Ted Baehr -- publisher of the Christian Web site Movieguide.org -- says there also have been creative differences over the inclusion of faith elements that were prominent in the children's novel.
Baehr says the search for new studio backing could delay filming -- which was scheduled to start in the spring. That uncertainty, he says, could require the casting of new actors in major roles.
But Baehr believes another major studio will partner with Walden Media to make The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, because they're all looking for a potential blockbuster.
