Johnny Hunt Elected SBC President

Dr. Johnny Hunt, Senior Pastor of First Baptist Church of Woodstock, GA was elected the President of the Southern Baptist Convention by a wide margin. Hunt will succeed Dr. Frank Page, who concludes his second term as President in Indianapolis this week.
Hunt received the support of over 50% of the 7,000-plus registrants, called "messengers." Dr. Frank Cox of North Metro First Baptist in Lawrenceville, GA was second in the ballotting with 21% of the vote. Avery Willis was third with just over 900 votes.
There were a total of six candidates for the post this year. The other three candiates were Les Puryear, Bill Wagner and Wiley Drake.
